What is a Doula?

As a birth doula, I provide non-judgmental support, along with evidence-based education, hands-on support during your labor inclduing comfort measures, and emotional support.


When should I hire a doula?

You can hire a doula whenever you want! Ideally, you want to hire a doula as early as possible so you have time to get to know them and are comfortable having them in your birthing space.

Does insurance cover Doula services?

Coverage for doula care is not yet routine among insurance companies. It's fortunately becoming more common. Many insurers now cover doula services. You'll want to call your insurance company to see if they’re one of them.

Will a doula support an epidural? Does a doula support a cesarean?

Doulas can support all variations of birth. Whether you want an epidural, a home birth, a birthing center birth, a cesarean, you name it. A doula’s role is not limited to only offering physical support for unmedicated births.

Can doulas provide medical advice?

A doula does not give medical advice or perform any medical tasks. While it is beneficial for a doula to be knowledgeable about medical procedures, the job of a doula is not to make medical decisions for the client.

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a nanny?

A postpartum doula is focused on the wellness of both the postpartum mother and the baby. They support the postpartum parent's physical and emotional healing in addition to helping with baby skills, such as bathing, diapering, swaddling, sleeping and breastfeeding.

Do Doulas provide lacatation support?

A doula can assist with teaching you the basics of breastfeeding, assist with latching and positioning. If you have any breastfeeding concerns, I have a Certified Lactation Consultant that I work with and can refer you to.
